Lucille Townsend, grade one teacher at St. Paul Elementary Community School, received an Excellence in Catholic Education Award this past weekend at the ACSTA's annual retreat.

This past weekend several St. Paul Education staff members attended the annual SPICE retreat in Kananaskis. SPICE (Sharing Purpose in Catholic Education) is an annual conference hosted by the Alberta Catholic School Trustees' Association. The purpose of the retreat is to bring together members of Alberta's Catholic school communities to collaborate and explore current issues in Catholic education.

At the conference, St. Paul Elementary Community School teacher Lucille Townsend received an award for Excellence in Catholic Education. The Excellence in Catholic Education Award recognizes Catholic teachers in Alberta who have done an exemplary job in preparing our youth to grow into outstanding Catholic citizens. Nominees shall be passionate about Catholic education and the students they teach, inspire their students, and demonstrate commitment to Catholic education and teaching excellence. Lucille, who has been working with St. Paul Education for 29 years. Lucille teaches grade one, seeing first-hand how her modelling of the Catholic faith builds within the students love for Jesus. She has been a strong promoter of the Growing in Faith, Growing in Christ program, enthusiastically spreading good news about the program and how it has opened doors to different faith opportunities within her classroom. She hopes that her students leave her classroom having learned God loves them, to love their neighbour as they love themselves and that they make the world around them kinder and more compassionate.

As we celebrate Catholic Education Week, we would like to congratulate Lucille on receiving this award! Thank you far all that you do to serve your students!
