New Myrnam School Receives Esteemed Energy Efficiency Champion Award

On Tuesday June 4th, eight student representatives and two staff from New Myrnam School attended the 28th annual Alberta Emerald Awards as distinguished guests. The awards, hosted by the Alberta Emerald Foundation, recognize and celebrate the outstanding environmental achievements of large and small businesses, individuals, not-for-profit associations, community groups, youth, and governments. The Emerald Awards are the only award of their kind in our country, showcasing environmental excellence across all sectors. This year, New Myrnam School was selected by Energy Efficiency Alberta to receive the Energy Efficiency Champion Award. Earlier this year, New Myrnam School won a Youth Environmental Engagement Grant to help with the construction of their outdoor eco-classroom. After reviewing this year’s Youth Environmental Engagement Grant recipients, Energy Efficiency Alberta selected New Myrnam School as an exemplary one to receive the Energy Efficiency Champion award. Along with the award, the school also received an additional $1,000 to continue their work with renewable energy. At the awards ceremony, the Alberta Emerald Foundation showed a short video that they prepared for the awards ceremony that highlights Myrnam students' projects this year.
