August 17, 2021
In a few short weeks students will return to class, and we certainly hope this year will bring a more “normal” educational experience for our students and staff. We are excited to have our students back. Our return to school planning is designed to support the overall health and well-being of our staff and students, while also taking reasonable proactive measures to minimize the transmission of illness. As always, learning will continue.
Alberta Education recently released their 2021-22 School Year Plan and Parents’ Guide. Throughout the pandemic, the division has been following the guidelines as prescribed by Alberta Health Services and Alberta Education.
I have developed a set of recommendations in consultation with the Board of Trustees and school administrators. Please see below. Before the plan is finalized by the Board, parents and community stakeholders are invited to ask questions and provide input during a virtual meeting on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at 6:30 PM. If you are unable to attend the meeting, you can contact me or the trustees by email. Alternatively, I can be reached at 780-227-0340. Please see our Division website for each trustee’s phone number.

Masks are not required but still recommended. Staff and students who choose to wear a mask will be supported.
Strict class and grade cohorting will no longer be required. Students will be allowed to resume regular activities and routines at recess and lunch hour.
Athletics and extracurricular activities will resume.
School cafeterias will be fully open.
Daily screening using the Alberta Health Daily Checklist will continue.
Students who test positive for COVID-19 or have symptoms must stay home in accordance with AHS isolation guidelines (students who are required to stay home will receive homework from their teacher).
10% or greater absenteeism will be reported to AHS. AHS may declare a school outbreak or recommend additional safety measures.
Routine public health practices will be promoted, including,
hand sanitizer available in convenient areas throughout the school,
respiratory etiquette, and
frequent and thorough hand washing.
HVAC and air circulation systems will be regularly monitored.
Enhanced cleaning protocols will remain in place.
Physical distancing will still be appropriately implemented (ie: designated entrances, staggered release times).
As per AHS guidelines, masks are required on school buses until September 27 when the province will provide further direction.
NOTE: We will continue to monitor emergent situations and our plan may evolve as necessary.
At-Home Learning
For parents wishing to keep their children at home, at-home learning options will be offered. Programming will be tailored to each individual school context and may not look like the 2020-2021 school year. Details will be released shortly.
