School Health Measures Now Include Mandatory Masks

August 4, 2020

Today the Minister of Education announced that as part of a number of new school safety measures to combat COVID-19, mask use for Grade 4 to 12 students, and all school staff, will be mandatory when school returns for the 2020-21 year.

  • All staff and students in Kindergarten to Grade 12 will be provided with 2 reusable face masks by the provincial government prior to the start of the school year.

  • Mask use for K-3 students will continue to be optional.

  • Mask use will be mandatory for staff and teachers in all settings where physical distancing cannot be maintained. Students will be required to wear them in all shared and common areas such as hallways and on buses. Exemptions will be made for students and staff who are unable to wear a mask due to medical or other needs.

The safety and well-being of students and staff remains a priority for St. Paul Education. A detailed plan for school re-entry will be finalized shortly and shared with families to help make an informed decision regarding their child’s educational programming.

St. Paul Education will also offer online programming (K-12) to allow our families a degree of choice within the Scenario 1 near-normal return to school.
