Following the Treaty 6 Flag Raising ceremony on June 21, 2022, St. Paul Education was presented with a Treaty 6 medallion by Greg Desjarlais, Chair of Tribal Chiefs Ventures Inc. and current Chief of the Frog Lake First Nations. Cultural Advisor for St. Paul Education, Clifford Cardinal, shared that the medallion was “originally presented by Queen Victoria to Treaty signatories as a symbol of a sealed relationship between two nations to acknowledge sovereignty”.
Treaty 6 Chiefs present medallions to organizations and groups of people who have made outstanding contributions to instilling cultural values and traditions. Doing so acknowledges that an “unending bond and true relationship exists”, according to Mr. Cardinal.
Board Chair Heather Starosielski accepted the medallion on behalf of St. Paul Education. The medallion will act as a visible recognition of the Division’s ongoing reconciliation efforts.
