|The 2014-2015 Doug Yeo Youth In Action Memorial Award was awarded to École Mallaig School. The award was presented by Ms. Carolyn Yeo (pictured below) at a school assembly in September. Using funds from the award, students in the Grade 8/9 Catholic Religion class at École Mallaig School purchased materials and sewed 100 pillowcases for people at the Hope Mission in Edmonton. The students travelled to Edmonton on April 23, 2015 to serve the evening meal and deliver the pillows - youth in action!|
Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new school year! We hope everyone had a revitalising and enjoyable summer break and students are back ready to reap the rewards and tackle the challenges of another exciting year of education.
As this school year begins, we have told our staff that each of them has enormous gifts to give – the gift of enhancing the lives of our students, of helping them grow and succeed, inspiring a love of learning, and the best gift a person can give, the gift of enthusiasm. The same could be said of the many gifts of our students and families - students enhance our lives, they help us to grow and learn as teachers, and they inspire us each and every day with their enthusiasm.
At SPERD we believe that our staff have a responsibility to make a positive and lasting difference in the lives of students. Together, by working with parents, caregivers, other service providers, and our students, we have the ability to make a difference. Our hope is that our division, our schools, and our communities become even better places to learn, to work, and to thrive, both today and in the future.
We welcome all of our new students, families and staff and look forward to getting to know you better.
To our returning students, families and staff - thanks for working together so well and so hard last year; our efforts have paid off and will continue to contribute to our goals of improving student achievement and building quality relationships. We aim to go above and beyond for the kids, and with our shared commitment to students, we will have another year of growth and improvement for each and every child in our Division.
Have an awesome September and a great start to the school year!
