Deziree Warholik Named Principal of Ashmont School for the 2025–26 School Year

We are pleased to announce Deziree Warholik as the new principal of Ashmont School for the 2025-26 school year! Born and raised in St. Paul, Deziree is deeply connected to our region and brings a wealth of experience and passion for education to her new role.

Deziree completed her high school education at St. Paul Regional High School and continued her post-secondary studies at Lakeland College and Athabasca University, focusing on business with a major in accounting. Her journey in education began with the Aboriginal Teacher Education Program (ATEP) at Blue Quills College (now University) and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta. She recently completed the University of Alberta’s Graduate Certificate in School Leadership and is currently pursuing her Master of Education in Educational Studies.

With a rich teaching background, Deziree has taught grades 7-12 at Ashmont School from 2014-2020 and again from 2022-2025, covering subjects such as math, music, social studies, language arts, science, graphic design, and leadership. She also taught grades 2-3 at Vilna School and grades 5-6 at Elk Point Elementary. Her leadership experience includes acting administrator at Ashmont School and serving as Assistant Principal from 2024-2025.

Beyond the classroom, Deziree has dedicated over 20 years to coaching figure skating, hockey, power skating, swimming, and baseball in various communities. She values time spent outdoors, especially during the warm summer months, and cherishes time with her family, which includes her spouse of nearly 24 years, three step-children, two children of her own, and step-grandchildren.

Superintendent Dr. Peter Barron shared his congratulations and praised Deziree’s dedication and leadership:

She’s done an excellent job as Assistant Principal, and her caring approach, experience, and focus on relationships make her the perfect fit to continue leading our Ashmont School community. Deziree is most excited to continue building positive and supportive relationships with students, staff, families, and the community, fostering an environment that promotes student success and well-being. We’re confident her leadership will inspire growth, belonging, and community spirit in the years to come!
