In response to the ongoing provincial teachers’ strike, the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) has implemented a reactive lockout of teachers and school administrators across Alberta, effective Thursday, October 9, 2025 at 1 p.m.
A lockout means that teachers and administrators are directed not to perform work duties or access school facilities while negotiations continue. This is a routine process employers may use in response to a union strike to maintain consistency and predictability during ongoing labour action.
TEBA has said that while a lockout was not its preferred outcome, it believes this step will help provide predictability for students and families as discussions with the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) continue. TEBA has also stated that it remains committed to ongoing negotiations with the ATA to reach a fair agreement and ensure students can return to classrooms as soon as possible.
The teachers’ strike remains in effect, and all St. Paul Education schools will remain closed until further notice. There is no additional impact on support staff.
We understand how challenging this disruption is for students, families, and staff. We remain hopeful that both parties will reach a fair and timely resolution so that classrooms can reopen soon.
Updates will continue to be shared on our Labour Action page as new information becomes available.
