St. Paul Education would like to congratulate Mr. Garth Finlay on being appointed as the principal of Elk Point Elementary School for the upcoming 2024-25 school year.
Mr. Finlay was born in Calgary, Alberta, where he spent his early years before relocating to High River for his secondary education from grade 8-12. His educational journey continued at the University of Lethbridge, where he obtained his Bachelor of Management followed by his Bachelor of Education.
His professional career commenced as an educator at the Grand Prairie Regional College in 2006. Transitioning to École Mallaig School in 2015, Mr. Finlay devoted his expertise to shaping young minds in Grades 5 and 6. In 2021, he assumed the role of assistant principal at École St. Paul Elementary School while also teaching upper elementary students.
Garth and his wife Missy enjoy spending time with their two children, Arlo and Hazel. An avid golfer and curler, he also dedicates his time as a volunteer baseball coach and member of the St. Paul Friends of Library initiative.
Mr. Finlay is excited to embark on this new chapter. When asked about what he hopes to bring to the position, he shared, “I look forward to supporting an already close and vibrant school community, while developing meaningful connections and working collaboratively towards the shared goal of guiding students toward academic and life success.”
