St. Paul School Trustee Elector FAQ
Polls are being coordinated with the local municipality, so your polling station will be the
same as your Town or County location. Watch for the ads in the local newspapers
indicating advance and regular poll locations.
You need not have children in school to vote for school trustee. The voter eligibility
criteria are the same as the municipal criteria. Voter lists may not include all electors, so
you should bring ID and confirmation of your address (driver’s license, utility bill etc) to
the polling station.
For 2025, an election is only being held in Wards C and D as the candidates in Wards A and B and Glen Avon have been acclaimed. Maps will be posted at each polling station and are also available on the SPERD website: http://www.stpauleducation.ab.ca/
The selection of a ballot is based on two criteria: residence and faith. If you have
children or where they go to school, is not relevant.
If you are Protestant and reside in the Glen Avon ward, you should request a Glen Avon
ballot. We define Protestant as a Christian who is not Roman Catholic. We define
Roman Catholic as a person who is in communion with the See of Rome (recognizes
Roman Catholic Pope). As the candidate was acclaimed, there is no election in the
Glen Avon ward and you would not vote for school trustee this election.
If a voter is Protestant, and lives outside the Glen Avon Ward, but in Ward C, then
he/she will get a Ward C ballot. (note that Glen Avon and Ward C overlap some but do
not fully share the same boundaries).
If a voter is not Protestant, the clerk will have to confirm that he/she lives in Ward C. If a
voter is not Protestant and is a resident of Ward C, he/she will get a Ward C ballot.
Just because your kids attend Glen Avon, does not qualify you as a Glen Avon elector.
In order to vote in the Glen Avon ward, you must: a) reside in the GA ward and b) be of
the Protestant faith.
If you live outside the Glen Avon ward and within Ward C, you must vote in Ward C
even though your children might attend Glen Avon or you might be Protestant.
